About Dja Dja
Dja-Dja is one of three compositions created for the post-concert performances of World of Rhythm 2023. The piece is inspired by the powerful energy and deep passion of North and West African percussion traditions.
While Lu-Lu and Saa-Saa focus on people coming together for collective drumming, Dja-Dja captures the musical expressions that often mark the conclusion of a community gathering. The piece begins softly and gradually evolves into a vibrant, loop-based structure.
Performers are invited to improvise, take solos, and enjoy the freedom of a non-Western approach.
